Contemporary signed Marvin Bailey ceramic eyeball jug. 'Marvin Bailey' carved to base. Jug is densely encrusted with rows of protruding eyelids featuring detailed sky-blue irises, all coated in a dripping, multi-toned alkaline glaze where vibrant cobalt blue streaks run over an earthy brown background. Marvin Bailey is a self-taught potter from Lancaster, South Carolina famous for his highly expressive, whimsical, and sometimes grotesque characters.
