Murano Scavo Sommerso a Bolline green glass catchall/ashtray attributed to Archimede Seguso, circa 1950s. This rare dish features multiple glass-making techniques. Scova meaning of the earth refers to the rough, textured surface. The sommerso technique is use to layer translucent green colored glass with a band of opaque white "lattimo" glass. Bollicine refers to the tiny gasseous bubbles found throughout the green layer. This bollicine glass derives its name from the numerous small air bubbles that pepper the form. Bubbles are produced by injecting the glass with potassium nitrate, a salt compound that, when heated, frees carbon dioxide. Unmarked. Excellent condition - See photos for condition details.
