Description
Original 1971 Philadelphia Transit Authority bus sign - 'City Cent'r Upp'r Darby' 'Express' 'Germantown Upp'r Darby'. This is a poster-sized section of an original Philadelphia bus roll sign. Scuffing and wear consistent with age and use - See photos for condition details. Dimensions are approximately 26.5" x 30". There may be slight variations in size.
Traditionally, transit signs were fabricated in this form: the "roll sign." In order to contain all of the possible routings and services that a given bus may run, a sign 'curtain' made of mylar material was printed and installed in a rolling display to indicate a destination to passengers. The roll sign practice has been discontinued in recent years, as LCDs and other screens have taken over the job of designation.
We recommend having your original poster framed by a professional in your area.
